David Placek, a landlord owning 12 rental units in Montclair, New Jersey, has decided to waive 3 months worth of rent from his tenants – more than $50,000 in total – as the global pandemic continues to take its toll on the health and financial security of many Americans, as reported by ABC7.

By and large, we’ve gotten a good reception from our tenants. They’re happy that we were able to do this early on and really able to show them some compassion and feelings for what they might be going through,” Placek told the newspaper.

“We didn’t ask them what financial position they’re in”, Placek said he’s grateful that he’s even in a position to do this. The average rent of his 12 units each is $1,200-1,500 per month. His tenants haven’t been the only ones recognizing Placek for his generous offer as New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also decided to pay tribute to Placek on Twitter.

Murphy praised the man as “exemplifying the spirit we need to see right now.”
