The Bulgarian Finance Minister announced today that the Ministry expects to raise Lev 600,000,000 (€300 million) in 2016, when it sells a 35 year operating concession for Sofia Airport.

Contrary to normal procedures, it is expected that the entire sum will be paid upfront. This will have the effect of reducing the number of potential bidders, however it will ensure that the potential investors provide a well thought out business plan, ensuring solid growth.

It is anticipated that air travel in and out of Sofia will experience rapid growth over the next 20 years. Currently the airport services approximately 4 million passengers per year.
